_ NEW TECHNOLOGY CATAPULTS SCHOOL VENDING INCOME

There are several categories of technology that can slightly to dramatically increase sales in self-operated school vending machines.

1.    Cash-Free Transactions:

  1. This can be accomplished by integrating your vending machines
with your Lunch POS program.  Over a dozen POS Companies offer

vending integration to accommodate reimbursable meal sales

through vending machines and/or ala carte sales.

  1. This can be accomplished with cell phone commerce.  VUWI is a
system currently being beta tested where cell phones can be used

like a school POS system so that students can make purchases

from the healthy vending machines in their school.

2.    Interactive Nutrition Screens can display the nutrition data for each

selection on request, but also act as an advertising venue for additional

monthly income from the healthy vending machines operated by the school.

What supplier would not want to access the next generation of America’s

consumers?

3.    Web Managed School Vending machines will email the restocker when

individual selections sell to the low par level.  An exact pick list can be

printed out.  Records can be accessed  on the control website to compare

sales categories to identify poor selling items to replace.  Complete cash

accountability is available as the machines are connected to the internet

and everything is recorded on your school vending website.  Albany High

School in Albany California increased their vending sales from $8,000 annually to over $40,000 annually through two web managed vending

machines that replaced two machines previously loaned by a beverage

distributor.

4.    Customized Healthy Product Configuration is extremely important

for both satisfying wellness policies and for product variety.  Albany High

School maintained their same water sales but increased total vending sales

through their web managed machines by offering far more healthy choices.

5.    Combination Marketing can increase total sales.  Harness the power of

packaged meal deals with your school vending machines.  You can’t offer

a drive-thru window for your school vending machines, but you can offer

several discounted combo purchases like a sandwich in coil #10 with a

baked chip in coil #23 and a chocolate milk in selection 55.

6.    Guaranteed Product Delivery means no one loses their money in the

vending machines.  Infrared sensors crisscross the delivery bin that will

not allow a credit to be cancelled until the selected product passes through

the light beams.  Even if someone selects an empty column their credit will still be available after two unsuccessful rotations conclude.

There are new vending technologies that can make a dramatic sales difference in self-operated school vending machines.
